EMDR Intensives
Supporting those who feel like traditional talk therapy would be too disruptive to their already hectic lives and those who need to feel better now.
Carolyn Gorski is an EMDR Consultant offering intensive therapy for clients wanting relief and results faster than a weekly session model allows.
Flexibility in how you receive therapeutic support is important, and the traditional model of weekly psychotherapy can shift to meet your needs.
Traditional talk therapy is a long-term support system to help you work through life challenges over time, but two things keep coming up for you:
Your schedule is demanding and unpredictable, making a weekly therapy appointment feel overwhelming.
You feel like you need a lot of help, and quickly. The idea of spending months in talk therapy makes it feel impossible to ever feel better.
EMDR FAQs
What are EMDR Intensives?
EMDR Intensives are an accelerated and concentrated form of traditional EMDR therapy. Instead of the standard 60-minute weekly sessions, EMDR Intensives allow the client and therapist to meet for 3-6 hours each day over 1-3 days. This extended time working together, creates an immersive and focused therapeutic experience.
Important Note: EMDR is not just for trauma; it is also used for performance enhancement to excel in areas such as athletics, business, and relationships.

Is an EMDR Intensive Right for You?
-
If you are able to relate to any of the following, then an EMDR Intensive can help you find the relief you are searching for…
- You have had a felt sense that something profound has yet to change, but you’re not quite sure how to shift all the way into a new experience of yourself with your current therapist. Maybe you now cognitively understand new things, yet your body is still confused, so you’re curious about how intensive EMDR therapy can help as you work with your primary talk therapist.
- You have been meaning to get into weekly therapy for a while now, but your schedule has been so hectic and demanding that a weekly therapy appointment feels more overwhelming than supportive.
- You are needing help right now, and you don’t want to spend months in the traditional weekly model of therapy treatment to feel better.
- You are a current, weekly client who is needing extra, focused support quickly.
- You are a new client who just prefers to work intensively.
Research on the Effectiveness of EMDR Intensives
- Intensive application of trauma-focused therapy seems to be well tolerated in patients with PTSD, enabling faster symptom reduction with similar (or even better) results, while reducing the risk that patients drop out prematurely. Learn more here and here.
- Intensive EMDR treatment is feasible and is indicative of reliable improvement in PTSD symptoms in a very short time frame. Learn more here.
- An intensive program using EMDR therapy is a potentially safe and effective treatment alternative for complex PTSD. Learn more here.
- The economy is compelling: even compared to other trauma therapy, the intensive format may decrease treatment time because of time not spent on:
- a) checking in at the beginning of each session,
- b) addressing current crises and concerns,
- c) focusing on stabilizing and coping skills that the client won’t need after trauma healing, or
- d) assisting the client in regaining composure at the end of the session.

What if I already have a primary therapist?
Where are EMDR Intensives offered?
EMDR Intensives are held in office (Allentown, PA) or virtually. If held virtually, you must be physically located in Pennsylvania or South Carolina at the time of treatment.
What To Expect/Session Structure
Pre-consultation Interview
- During this 20-minute phone consultation you and I will assess your candidacy for an EMDR Intensive. We will briefly discuss your presenting concerns, the implications on your life/functioning, and I will share information regarding an EMDR Intensive.
- If after this consultation, we determine you would benefit from an EMDR Intensive, an Intake Appointment would be scheduled.
Intake Appointment (90-minutes in length)
- Before your Intake Appointment, you will gain access to a client portal to complete assessments and provide information about yourself and your history. By completing this information ahead of our Intake Appointment, I am able to review and present any follow-up questions.
- During our virtual Intake Appointment, we will identify unpleasant beliefs, body sensations, emotions, or images from which you are seeking relief. Together we will create a customized treatment program with your targeted treatment goals.
- Based on your identified treatment plan goals, we will also discuss the length of your EMDR Intensive. Any follow-up care with a supportive therapist after your EMDR Intensive will be identified. If appropriate, consent forms will be completed to coordinate continuation of your care.
Intensive Sessions
- Our Intensive Sessions will begin with cultivating inner resources and resilience building, essential tools that foster safety, calm, and empowerment, which lay the groundwork for deeper trauma exploration and healing.
- Next, the Reprocessing Phase, is where the transformative work begins. We begin the reprocessing of past traumatic memories, address present triggers, and create positive future templates.
- To support the Reprocessing Phase, and when deemed helpful and welcomed by you, I integrate a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Internal Family Systems, Somatic Therapy techniques, movement, and mindfulness.
